Artificial Ascendency is a concept-driven metal record constructed as a four-movement “metal symphony,” applying classical compositional frameworks to modern heavy music.
Each movement adopts a traditional form: sonata, theme and variation, scherzo, and rondo, to guide both the musical and narrative progression. The record explores the rise, dominance, and eventual reckoning of artificial intelligence, charting humanity’s trajectory from innovation to obsolescence and, ultimately, reflection.
Rather than presenting a collection of songs, the album is designed as a cohesive, long-form work, where motifs, harmonic language, and rhythmic ideas evolve across movements. Modern metalcore and progressive metal are fused with cinematic orchestration and structural discipline more commonly associated with classical composition, creating a hybrid form that prioritises narrative continuity as much as sonic impact.
The project features internationally recognised collaborators: Josh Baines of Malevolence and Mike Malyan, formerly of Monuments, while maintaining a unified artistic vision through a single compositional and production approach.
Artificial Ascendency aims to bridge the gap between classical ambition and contemporary heavy music, treating metal not just as a genre, but as a vehicle for large-scale, concept-driven composition.
