'Approach to the Inmost Cave' was born in a small cottage in the mountains of Southern Oregon, and reflects the composer’s own approach to the inmost cave of her life. Shortly after creating the piece, her entire world changed in an instant and she was called to embark on the journey of a lifetime. She navigated the loss of a longterm relationship, career upheaval, and moved across the country with her small dog, all while battling debilitating mental illness. Unsure if she was strong enough to make it through, she searched for a hero only to find herself disappointed and heartbroken again and again. With patience, determination, and a lot of courage, she made it through her ordeal and is currently building a beautiful, joy-filled life for herself and her dog, Sophie. And when she looks back at what she went through, she realizes she had a hero all along.
The hero was herself.
'Approach to the Inmost Cave' is a reminder that when you can't find a hero, you can BE YOUR OWN.
Composed and recorded by Kimberly StarKey, also known as The Rogue Pianist, Approach to the Inmost Cave is one of 12 tracks composed by women around the world for the album "The Shero's Journey" by the group EPIC WOMEN. The group and album was spearheaded by composer and vocalist, Felicia Farrere who has a long list of achievements in the film, tv and trailer music industry. Each track represents part of Joseph Campbell’s monomyth and story template, "The Hero’s Journey", from a woman's perspective.
This album was signed by Warner Chappell Production Music. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Children of Ethiopia Education Fund (COEEF).
A big thank you to Felicia Farerre, recording engineer Mike Bromann, mixing engineer Phil Rey, LIT Music Awards, Warner Chappell Production Music, Jennifer Thomas and the rest of the Epic Women who poured their hearts and souls into creating music for this album. This piece is dedicated to all the other souls who are in the process of becoming their own hero.
