Dario Savino Doronzo
1. Please provide us with a brief bio of yourself and your background.
I credit my parents for encouraging my brothers and me to cultivate art, particularly the art of sound. My father, quoting Nietzsche, always said to us: «Without music, life would be a mistake». And that stuck with me. At home, the air was filled with my mother’s creativity; she was often engrossed in painting or decorating objects. In short, I literally breathed art and music ever since I was a child. I concentrated all my passion and most of my energy in the study of music. I earned my degrees in Trumpet, Jazz Music, Choir Conducting, Sound Science and Technology and Building Engineering with subsequent specialization in Sound Engineering. During my studies, I was certainly influenced by unforgettable musicians who inspired me to undertake new and ambitious professional paths. I also teach the trumpet at the Liceo Musicale (Music Secondary School) and the Conservatory of Music.
2. What led you to become a talent/artist/influencer/performer?
My main ambition has always been to be an artist. I have always believed that talent would not be enough and it is for this reason that I have incessantly studied hard and worked to gain more experience to further develop myself professionally. Experience and culture are my 'keys' to success.
3. Tell us more about your studio/company/academy.
In the course of my artistic career, I’ve dedicated myself to various musical projects that have given me the possibility to perform in my birth country of Italy, as well as in Turkey, Portugal, Serbia, Argentina, Switzerland, Austria, Albania, Greece, the United States of America, etc. In 2015, together with my very good friend Pietro Gallo I formed a Duo (flugelhorn and piano) that realized an album “Reimagining Opera”, a modern arrangement of Italian Operas, for the music label “DiG – Digressione Music”, gaining numerous awards and positive reviews from music-specialized magazines worldwide.
4. What skills have you learned that will help you in your result and/or performance?
My skills have grown over time. My studies and my artistic experiences have surely stimulated me to experiment and to create original musical projects and didactics. Furthermore, I’ve concentrated my studies on flugelhorn and the possibility that this instrument could grant me in terms of sound, expression and dynamics, sharpening my musical interpretation skills. I am convinced that to reach a goal, one must strongly believe in oneself and be willing to take risks.
5. What is your own definition of an impressive performance/show/masterpiece?
For me, a show is impressive only if it touches the ‘strings’ of the heart, if you can convey passion and love for what you do. When you are able to reach out to the audience, enthusing them and satisfying them with your creativity.
6. What is your creative or ideation process like?
Ideation and creation are the most important phases of a project. In this context, the objectives and purpose of the work itself are outlined. It is like a genetic imprint that will distinguish the entire path in originality.
7. What has been the best performance of your career so far?
I do not like to categorize. Each experience has given me so much. Without a shadow of a doubt, what strengthened me as an artist is the performance at Carnegie Hall in New York.
8. Describe the worst performance you have seen. What would you change about it?
The worst performances are the result of superficiality. In our field, unfortunately, there are many such cases and so I believe that everything, from the organization to the realization, should be done with absolute seriousness and professionalism.
9. Congratulations! As the winner of LIT Talent Awards, what does it mean to you, or your team, to receive this honor?
I am delighted to have received this precious award. In this competition, I have met numerous talents from all over the world. This experience pushes me to continue to give the best of my professional self.
10. How has winning an international awards help promote you and/or your masterpiece?
The awards are very important because they increase the international esteem and attention of the media to one’s music. Furthermore, they are an important testing ground for improving one’s artistic performances, as competition leads one to exceed one’s limits.
11. What are the challenges, for your winning entry, that you faced?
The challenges are numerous. First of all, it is a challenge to please the audience, to create trust and a feeling with them. The challenges help us to increase the ‘lifeblood’ of our musical ambition.
12. What advise you will give to those who are in the same industry and/or are interested with your craft?
I would recommend investing in one’s own professionalism and study. Today, it is natural to be charmed by the quick and easy success but usually, over time, everything disappears. Only those who commit themselves with tenacity and a lot of study are successful.
13. Who inspired you in your life, and why?
My initial inspiration was my family. Without the support of my loved ones, I would not have made it. Also, I cannot forget my school and Conservatory teachers who have honed my talent.
14. Who do you admire and what did he/she do that motivated you?
I admire many musicians. They are my source of inspiration. I listen to their music for hours on end, falling love with their sound and phrasing more and more. Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Chet Baker, Bix Beiderbecke, Lee Morgan, Clark Terry and many other unforgettable ones have impressed a great positive energy in my heart.
15. Who would you most like to collaborate with?
I can think of a thousand names. I would certainly collaborate with artists whom I could get in tune with, with whom I can create a synergistic and creative project.
16. What is the key that made you succeed? Any parting words of wisdom?
Steve Jobs said: «Stay hungry, stay foolish». This is the ‘key’ for me. Believe ardently in one's dreams and pursue them to the last breath.
17. What is your upcoming masterpiece, that you’re currently preparing, about?
My next work will continue to focus on classical Italian Operas in synergy with modern improvisation.
18. If you could change anything about the entire industry, what would it be?
In our society and also in our music sector, I am noticing a great attention to appearing rather than being. This leads to a loss of authenticity of the artist and of the project.
