Salt & Static is a six-track concept EP from Pick Up Goliath that explores different forms of internal conflict through the language of modern progressive metalcore.
Across the record, themes of depression, addiction, grief, communication, fatherhood and suicidal ideation are approached as individual snapshots rather than parts of a single linear story. Each track has its own musical identity, while remaining connected by a wider sonic world built from crushing guitars, cinematic atmospheres, electronic textures and large melodic hooks.
The EP deliberately pushes beyond conventional metalcore. Black Sugar frames addiction through the metaphor of a destructive relationship, while La Sombra incorporates Spanish and African influences into a song structured around the five stages of grief. Monolanguage draws on hip-hop and nu-metal, combining rapped vocals, 808s and heavy guitars, while Father Asphyxia examines the collision between parenthood and personal identity. The closing track, Quiet Quit, brings the record to its darkest and most vulnerable point.
Written, produced, mixed and mastered by Sam George at Mammoth Sound Studio in Cáceres, Spain, Salt & Static is intentionally uncomfortable, intensely personal and sonically ambitious, balancing aggression with melody and detailed modern production.
