Tianyu Wang

Wang Tianyu is an accomplished professional tuba player with an elite academic background and extensive international performance and professional experience. He earned his Bachelor of Music Performance (Tuba) from the Central Conservatory of Music (2016–2020), then completed a Tuba Performance Diploma (2020–2023) and Master of Music in Tuba Performance (2023–2025) at Indiana University. Since August 2025, he has been pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Tuba Performance at the University of Cincinnati, honing his craft at premier music institutions worldwide.
In professional practice, he served as Principal Tuba of both the China Oriental Symphony Orchestra and New Jiuzhou Symphony Orchestra (April 2021–August 2022), starring in major theater shows and national tours across China. Since 2024, he has held the position of Principal Tuba at the Indiana University Conductors Orchestra, while supporting conducting student training and nurturing emerging conducting talents, embodying his expertise in performance and music education.
His exceptional skills have earned top industry accolades: Third Prize at China’s influential Jinbao Tuba Solo Competition (2019, awarded by the Central Conservatory of Music) and 1st Prize at the US MWRTEC Solo Competition (2024, issued by the International Tuba Euphonium Association/ITEA), a premier American tuba contest. A member of ITEA since May 2023, he is deeply integrated into the global tuba and euphonium community.
Wang boasts a distinguished performance resume across iconic venues and key events. He performed classic symphonies at the National Centre for the Performing Arts as an undergraduate, held a tuba solo concert at Indiana University (2023), joined the China-US tuba exchange concert (2024), presented a graduate recital at Ford-Crawford Hall (April 2025), and performed at the 10th China (Wuhan) International Low Brass Festival (July 2025). Proficient in symphonic performances, solo recitals and international exchanges, he delivers diverse artistic expressions with masterful technique, solidifying his standing as a leading tuba player of his generation.
