RAYP, a word in the Pinuyumayan language meaning “partner,” embodies a shared vocabulary that connects people through emotional bonds. Inspired by the traditional communal practice of labor exchange in Indigenous villages, this album brings together creative energies across diverse ethnic groups, cultures, and languages. The participating communities include the Pinuyumayan, Bunun, Amis, and Rukai peoples. Within their distinct cultural contexts, the members respond to one another and collaborate closely, collectively weaving nine musical movements that interlace diverse sounds and lived experiences.
Like the floral wreath of the Pinuyumayan people—an emblem of connection and blessing—this album unfolds through the companionship of the Paliulius Band. Through music, we safeguard the relationships between peoples, carrying shared memories and emotions, and sustaining the warmth born of collective labor and mutual support, much like the steadfast partners who remain by our side.
