AS MARCIANAS – THE 6-STRING CAVAQUINHO IN THE FOREGROUND

As Marcianas is the new album by Márcio Marinho and presents 11 original solo compositions for the 6-string cavaquinho. The project is the result of a deep, original artistic research process developed within the context of a professional master’s degree in music (PROMUS/UFRJ).

The album proposes new paths for an instrument that is still relatively uncommon, exploring the 6-string cavaquinho as a complete sound body — melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic. The works expand the instrument’s language, revealing its expressive power and its contemporary role in Brazilian instrumental music.

Entirely composed on the 6-string cavaquinho, the pieces on As Marcianas investigate timbres, textures, and the technical possibilities of the instrument.
