FOR MY DEAR PANAMA
Presentation
The inspiration for this song, which I composed music and lyrics a year ago (Nov.2023), is Panama. Panama as a country, as a nation... as a homeland. They are the feelings of feeling it one's own, of loving it and of admiring it.
Venezuela is my homeland of birth and formation. Most of my life story happened there. I am and feel Venezuelan and with great pride.
But 14 years ago, circumstances changed my life, I arrived in this country, without knowing that I would stay to live in it and without imagining the metamorphosis to a new life.
In short, from being a banker for my entire productive professional life (more than 43 years) shortly after arriving, I retired early and forever from this activity.
Without having a concrete plan of how to continue, I enrolled in a music school to learn to play piano, an unfulfilled dream. Without rational or credible explanation, one day I began to write the lyrics of a song inspired by my wife Clara and a few days later I sat down at the piano and composed a melody. That's how my first song was born and that's how the Composer was born spontaneously.
It has been 13 years since this unusual event that has surprised everyone, including me.
I'm a music student, not yet a musician, nor a pianist... but LA MUSA has been present and I have dedicated myself to being a composer and music producer.
There are already more than 250 songs composed of which more than 130 songs have been produced and published included in 10 musical albums and some video clips
It is not the first time that Panama inspires me, but this time the feeling goes further.
It is the reflection of a duality that exists within me... Feel both countries as "my countries"
Venezuela, my homeland of birth and Panama, my musical homeland.
POR MI QUERIDA PANAMÁ is an ode to the beautiful feeling and pride of being and belonging.
It is a song in GUAGUANCÓ FUSIÓN.
The guaguancó is a rhythm that originated in Havana, Cuba coinciding with the abolition of slavery on the island in 1886. Guaguancó is one of the forms of rumba and contains a fusion of several Afro-Cuban rituals.
The instrumentation for the rumba includes three conga drums (the conga drum or Congas is a drum invented in Cuba that, unlike the African ones, has keys). Two of the drums (the prima conga drum and the second or three) mark the basic rhythm; the third conga drum, called the fifth, which is tuned higher, gives the improvised beats, the flourishes aimed at the dancers.
Maestro Marco Linares in his BUNKER A1 studio in Paitilla preserves within his private collection of musical instruments the renowned congas PAN CON QUESO of the famous Venezuelan musician and luthier Carlos Emilio Landaeta (inventor of the leather maracas for salsa). These congas are the ones used by percussionist Eric Blanquicet in the recording of this song.
"Pan con Queso" is a Venezuelan brand of musical instruments recognized in the world of Latin music.
In addition to percussion, guitar, bass and piano, the young maestro Armando Mena and his synthesizer sax were invited to this production, which gives a new fusion touch to the song.
Gratitude
To my dear Clara, to Marco A Linares, friend and generous teacher, to Carlos Lucero, to Eric Blanquicet, to Mare Cabal, to all the musicians and to the rest of the support team.
Dedication
Dedicated to Panama, its people and all of us who have come to live here.
